What a weekend, we are finally free to move around again. It is a good deal. Found out with the reopening of society that things are moving on. For instance at a local all night coffee shop that I routinely visit if you went in there for the graveyard shift you would find Jim hanging out there. I would frequent this place to read as the distractions (Computers and TV) of the household was too much to overcome. Over the past few years I became friends with Jim. He had a small group of people who would stop by and chat. A lot of them were Veterans like myself. Just enjoyed the camaraderie and the discussion of current events. Anyways, I found out that Jim had passed from the living do not know what from. But like myself he had led a good life.
You might want to ask what this has to do with the first heat wave of 2021. It has nothing to do with anything. I have made a goal of being off the blood pressure medication by the end of the year. Right now I am on three different one’s. I am finding out that the drugs are limiting me. I have some regrets in life. One of them is not understanding how to set and achieve goals.
I have a firm belief that the public school system should make mandatory classes in financial literacy. These courses would start in the freshman year of high school.
They would include a basic book keeping course and rudiments accounting.
Goal setting and budget setting, and management courses.
How to search for a job or start a business.
Every student should read the book “How to make friends and influence people” by Dale Carnagie.
While these are just some of the idea’s . I believe that along with the basics of American History. We should be teaching what the leaders of the day were reading. Why we have some of the things we have in the constitution. I do not see myself as a right wing conservative but a fiscal conservative. I do not believe in taxing corporations highly but taxing the individuals who make the money by adding a luxury tax to certain items that they use. I heard this from stage from Charlie (tremendous) Jones and it stuck with me. You are going to become the person that you will become from the books that you read and people that you associate with.
